Commando Memorial The Commando Memorial is a Category A listed monument in Lochaber, Scotland, dedicated to the men of the original British Commando Forces raised during World War II. Situated around a mile from Spean Bridge, it overlooks the training areas of the Commando Training Depot established in 1942 at Achnacarry Castle.

During World War II Allied soldiers came to Spean Bridge for Commando training, which was part of Churchill's strategy to fight the Nazis all over Europe. British Commandos, United States Army Rangers and soldiers from Canada, France, Netherlands, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Belgium trained there.

Royal Marines have been involved in a weekend of commemorations around Spean Bridge, the iconic Commando Memorial. The 40 marines - based at 43 Commando Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines at Her Majesty's Naval Base Clyde - turned out in support of the annual Royal Marines Association parade at the memorial in Fort William, Scotland.

The commando memorial stands on the west side of the A82. It is just to the northwest of the small village of Spean Bridge. The largest settlement is Fort William to the south west. From Inverness, travel south along the A82 on the west side of Loch Ness. Stop off at Laggan Locks for a break if you need it.
