This week, I'm featuring a Northwest Airlines 747. I'm not exactly sure if this is a -100 or -200 series, but Northwest did have about three times more 747-200s in their fleet in total. Divided into three classes, it featured 18 sleeper seats in First Class, 48 Executive class seats, and 334 coach seats.

Northwest was one of only two passenger airlines in the United States to fly the Boeing 747-400, with the only other one being United Airlines. One Boeing 747-400 originally destined to fly for Northwest Airlines was sold to United Airlines which was in service until United retired its 747 fleet in 2017.

The 747-200Bs delivered in the early 1980s allowed for Tokyo-Chicago and Taipei-Los Angeles nonstops, for instance, and Northwest built a hefty fleet of them to radically ramp up their Pacific and even Atlantic flying. (See our blog post, " Maps of Northwest's 747 Routes Over the Years ," for where they were used.)
