Alberta Premium Dark Horse (Review) worldwhisky
The composition of Alberta Premium Dark Horse is 91% rye whisky, 8-8.5% bourbon and 0.5-1% sherry. It is 45% alcohol by volume and currently only comes in a 750ml bottle. The price point is by far one of the biggest things I like about Dark Horse and why I thought it would be a great addition to this blog.

Also, they've added some actual sherry wine to the blend (instead of using sherry casks for maturation). The whisky is aged in heavily charred American.

To round out the edges (and because they are allowed to), about 8% bourbon and some sherry is added. Dark Horse is named in honor of a racehorse owned by Frank McMahon, a founder of Alberta Distillers.

Alberta Premium Dark Horse Canadian Whisky is the newest offering from the company (who are owned by Beam, but who unfortunately do not export their whiskies outside of Canada), a darker, higher-ABV, (ostensibly) more strongly flavoured whisky. My guess is that it's designed to compete with the Crown Royal Black and a few other recent entries.

Dark Horse was available in the United States under the name "Dark Batch" for awhile, though I'm unsure if it still is. Dark Horse is a unique whisky. Chris Goodrum. Taster. Nose: Dense and lumpen slabs of molasses, abetted by dark treacle, walnuts, orange ring and dried grape. Becomes very spicy - cinnamon and black pepper with a touch of warm vanilla. Now it starts to show some elegance! Palate: Dense and very mouth-filling but elegant with molasses coated dried fruit and an almost agricole-esque herbal note developing.
